It is worrying to know that the number is never going down but rather rising and this has come to the attention of the medical fraternity. There is the need to know that our immune system works in such a way to keep us protected from diseases and infections. However, when someone has an autoimmune disease that means that they have a dysfunction somewhere in the immune system. Your immune system in such a case will not work as it is supposed to. Experts have not yet known the real causes of autoimmune diseases for a long time. Discussed below are some of the common autoimmune diseases.

To start with is type 1 diabetes. There is the need to know that the role of insulin in your body is to regulate the blood sugar levels regulated. There is the need to know however that if you are suffering from diabetes type 1, the immune system destroys those insulin-producing cells in your pancreas. It is common in all the autoimmune diseases that the body mistakenly attacks itself. The body cannot tell the difference between its cells and foreign cells.

You also need to be aware of multiple sclerosis. The disease destroys the protective coating that covers the nerve cells. The other name of nerve cell coating is myelin sheath. When the nerve cell coating is damaged, the transmission of information from the brain to the body through the spinal cord slows down significantly. In that case, you need to know that it will be hard for the body to communicate within itself.

Graves’ disease is another autoimmune disease. The usage of the body’s energy is controlled by the thyroid hormones. With the Graves’ disease, however, the immune system plans an attack on the thyroid glands. With increased thyroid hormones in your body, a person’s bodily activities increases.

The above diseases are the most common ones though there are more that exist. It is important to know that you learn about the symptoms to know if you or a close person to you is suffering from an autoimmune disease. When you realize that you have it rough trying to concentrate or focus, feel tired, weight gain, insomnia and such symptoms, it could mean that you have an autoimmune disease. In case you think that you are suffering from such a disease, there is the need to look for medical attention.

Living with an autoimmune disease is a huge detriment to one’s life.
